You don't go here for the service or ambiance. It is a super duper tiny spot, literally a hole in the wall. I order the pad see ew and my dinner partner ordered a penang curry. Both were delightful. Our appetizer was the shrimp "burgers" , very good as well. Only unfortunate thing is that my pad see ew was not good reheated at all, very chewy.

Got the Indian curry shrimp. Made me cry tears of deliciousness. Quick tip, these ladies will make you just about any combination of things on the menu if you ask politely. There are three kinds of curry: red, green, and yellow (indian). Big pot of lemon grass soup and some stuffed chicken wings put me under the table. Oh and the meatballs sit in a curry like sauce that will make you lick the plate clean. Leave your spices alone because it always comes to the table perfectly flavored!

When you go to Rama, you are going for the food, not the incredible ambiance or quick service. That is something you have to know upfront. Go in with that mentality, and you will have a wonderful meal. I've always found the waitresses to be extremely pleasant and helpful despite how busy they are. For starters, I always do some of their lemongrass soup. Delicious, and loaded with shrimp and mushrooms. That soup is one of my go-to soups whenever I am sick. Spicy, warm, and flavorful. Other great appetizers is the Rama Spicy, Mee Krab (sweet and crunchy!), and the sweet sausage salad. You can't go wrong with any of those. Entrees I have had that are winners are the Boo Hoo, Indian Curry Chicken, Pad Thai, Mint Beef, Rama Duck, and Garlic Shrimp. The only dish I have to say that I did not care for was the Squid Rama. There was just something off about it.

I remebered that I visited this restaruant last year. So far, I have bad feeling by old woman server. She was very unfriendly, but this point I am not sure that I am an international student and cant speak english well. Anyway she was not a good person to me.

Yelpers, you didn't let me down! I'm with you on Rama serving the best Thai in Baton Rouge, and quite possibly, the best in the state of Louisana. Make no mistake about it, you're going for the food, not the atmosphere. I've seen park restrooms that look more inviting, but once you enter and see the smiling faces of the regulars and the friendly servers, you know you're in for a treat. I started with the chicken soup, their take on traditional Tom Ka Soup, but with a slightly more reddish tint, and sans the mushrooms typically found in Tom Ka. That being said, this is one of the best Thai soups I've ever eaten. I see why the regulars at the table next to me, ordered a large one to go, You could literally live on this stuff! For my entree, I went with the cashew chicken, which was outstanding, although next time I'll go a little spicier. I asked for medium spicy, not knowing their standards. If you like your Thai "spicy" don't be afraid to ask them to kick it up a notch. So freaking good! I didn't stop until the generous serving was completely devoured. All of that, and a beer, for under $15! Are you kidding me?!? As I drove by Pei Wei up the street, I laughed at the thought that anyone would choose that over Rama.

I will not eat here again. I have never been so disappointed. By no means is this Thai. I will agree the service was slow as we were the only couple in there. It took about 15 minutes to get the check after we were done eating. I don't feel like describing our dishes and how they were because I don't feel like being rude...I'll just say it was displeasing.

You know I wasn't much of a yelper when I attended LSU... I always ate here at Rama! I'm only giving the food 4 stars!! Service can be okay or really bad! I remember one time we had to walk out after being ignored while the family that came in after us was served before us!! The place is literally hole in the wall and very tiny! These old ladies work There all the time! I mean I guess that's why they're slow... They get busy and there's only 1-2 of them serving. Anyway came to visit a friend and she ordered to go from Rama!! We had shrimp and chicken pad Thai, chicken larb, need satay, roasted duck, thai clear noodles stir fry. My favorite has always been the larb and Pad Thai!!! Mmmm I am craving now as I am writing this review. Although they don't use lettuce for the larb anymore, we had romaine lettuce. Get it to go if you don't want to wait and receive bad service!

Well, I've been waiting to come here a lonnnnnggggg time. I just couldn't get over the horrible cinder block no windows deal. It's just as bad on the inside as it is on the outside. Very quiet. The rooms are boxy. They put mirrors all over the walls to make it feel like there are windows. The service is pretty slow. I ordered another glass of wine every time the waitress came back to the table. They don't serve liquor. The food was pretty good. I personally didn't really like the green curry dish. It was my least favorite. The Penang was good but spicy. The pad Thai was enjoyable but could've used a little more spice in my opinion and a little more chicken. I'll eat there again.

I just came back from a dinner at the Rama restaurant. Apparently I did not go down the review list far enough. There are some generous reviews at the top of the list. You must dig deeper down the list. I am so confused with the "best Thai food in town" claim. I had the lemon grass soup, it was good. The beer was cold, service was friendly. The drunken noodles, was not anything I ever got at a Thai restaurant. Noodle seemed old, tough and chewy, sauce was way too sweet (especially for a dish advertised as spicy). I enjoy Thai food for the freshness of the ingredients, and the distinctive spices. It just was not fresh, could not eat it. I'm sorry, but this was the worst Thai food that I ever had. I refuse to believe that this is the best Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge.

I wanted to give this place a try after reading the great reviews and not being super impressed with other Thai restaurants in BR but the woman answering the phone said they were not taking to-go orders. I asked if I could come in and order it and get it to-go and the woman said it would still be an hour. I asked if it would be an hour if I dined in and she said no???

I've eaten pad thai in a number of different restaurants . Without a doubt this is the best best Pad Thai I've ever eaten.

Great veggie pad thai and spring rolls! Friendly customer service as well! No complaints here.

Generally, I like the food but service is soooo slow. Don't bother ordering carry out. It will never be ready when you get there so it would actually take less time to just eat-in.

Reading the reviews I didn't know how to feel but I knew that I wouldn't be happy with the service and I knew the place was divey. The place is definitely divey. The front door to the restaurant has no windows either, so you're not even sure if it's the entrance! The soup I had was AHMAZING. Let me tell you AHMAZING. Lemongrass soup. It has shrimp, plenty of mushrooms which I love. But the best was the way the broth tasted. I love it. I ordered the pad kee Mao, what I believe is drunken noodles. It's what I order at every Thai place. My key favorite, and how I judge a Thai place. It was sub-par. Honestly. I ordered spicy and it wasn't even a hint spicy. The meat was ground beef, which is different because I'm used to nice succulent slices of tender beef. The noodles were dry, and there was flavor but it wasn't cohesive. It was almost like thick spaghetti with no sauce. Not great. My boyfriend got pad Thai though, and I have to say it was great!!! I can't be the girl to eat all of a dish I DIDNT order, so I can't say I had enough to make this review better lol. I would go back, but ONLY for the soup. I'd order a gallon of it if I could. The service wasn't terrible. They aren't attentive like American restaurants, but Yelpers, let me tell you, True Asian restaurants don't focus on service, but on food. And their food is good. (The soup, anyway)

I love Rama! What a great dining experience. The building is old but has a lot of character; it also looks much bigger than it is due to the mirrors lining every wall. Food is really good and tied with Thai Pepper for best Thai I've had in Baton Rouge. Some tips on how to enjoy your meal: They can be pretty slow and they are only open for dinner. Don't go at peak days/times. If you show up Friday at 7 you will be there for hours. The food sometimes comes out at different times, so it's good to order family style and share. Also I recommend getting the shirmp chips for an appetizer. So good dipped in the peanut sauce.

I wanted to like Rama. I really, really did. However, I just know too much about good Thai food (and basic Asian flavors for that mater) to ever return. When I moved a couple months ago from Atlanta, I stocked up on lime leaves and galangal from the Asian market and drove them 8 hours to my new Baton Rouge home. I used to spend whole days cooking with my friend who lived in Thailand once upon a time. I am not casual about my love for Thai food, and I know what it is supposed to taste like. I am sincerely baffled by the overwhelmingly positive reviews and the recommendations I received to try this place. I love a good dive-y restaurant. I am fine with crap service if the food holds up. It just doesn't. Thai food is all about bold, well-rounded flavors and quality-fresh ingredients. The vegetables in our lard nah and yellow curry were obviously from a can, the noodles were undercooked, the rice was cooked to hell and back, and the seasoning was so bland, I had to doctor it up with a bunch of my own pantry ingredients when I got home. I am really, really depressed that so many called this "the best Thai in Baton Rouge." I would try it again, but if they are passing off bland, canned food off as authentic, what's the point?

This is the first Thai restaurant I've tried in Baton Rouge-- I usually make my own pad thai, but wasn't in the mood to cook and wanted it ASAP! After the confusing experience of finding the front door to the restaurant, I ordered a glass of plum wine. It was delicious! I'm not sure what plum wine is "supposed" to taste like, but this was like a sweet, alcohol-laced Welch's grape juice cocktail (and I say that in the best way possible). It was definitely on the strong side, too. I ordered the vegetarian Pad Thai with added tofu (for $1 extra) and my boyfriend got the Panang Tofu. We decided to share them both. The Pad Thai was pretty standard but definitely not as good as ones I've had in the past. The noodles were on the oilier side, and there were very few vegetables (a few strands of carrot and about 3 broccoli florets) included. There were also several huge chunks of tough lemongrass involved. The crushed peanuts and egg were scarce, and the tofu was average (and somewhat sweet like honey?). If I'm paying more than the price of a shrimp/pork/chicken Pad Thai for my vegetarian dish, I expect a little more than what I received. I'd give the Pad Thai itself 2.5 to 3 stars. The star dish was the Panang Tofu! The menu described it as a spicy fried tofu dish with peanut sauce, mushrooms, bell pepper, and green beans. We got the tofu, peanut sauce, and a mass quantity of green beans with about 2 slivers of mushroom and a few random pieces of bell pepper. I love green beans so I didn't mind, but my boyfriend was hoping for more mushrooms and peppers. The Panang was served with rice that was just perfect with the spicy sauce and I really enjoyed it. We ended up with enough food to take home for 2 more meals. Overall, the plum wine and panang tofu were winners! The service was average and the Pad Thai was sub-par (I've had better in rural Illinois, if that says anything). Also, the floor-to-ceiling mirrors on every wall were very odd...nothing more appetizing than watching yourself eat ;)

This place was amazing!! Me and my fiancé had eaten authentic Thai food lots places so we do know good Thai food when we see/try it and Rama restaurant delivers! The service was a lot quicker than other reviews stated But it mite depend of time of day and how busy they are which they seemed to be when we went. Coconut chicken soup is amazing you must try it. The prices are not to steep and you get lots on your plate. I recommend Rama restaurant to everyone who likes really good food. We will be going back again and again

By far the best Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge! I come here fairly often and try to order at least one new dish every time. Don't let the creepy entrance fool you, this place is definitely worth the risk! The decor isn't amazing either, but I just feel that it gives this restaurant more of an authentic "I'm in Thailand" kind of feel. The food is great! From the lemongrass or chicken soup, to your basic Pad Thai, or if you're willing to try something different the Panang Fish is all worth trying! But if you like some spice be sure to tell your server, Bc everything comes out pretty mild. And just as any other "Asian" restaurant do not expect superb service (that should be a given).

While I appreciate that this place serves some great Thai, the horrendous service that we received left quite a sour taste in my mouth. It's one thing to be a very busy restaurant with great customer service. It's another to be a busy restaurant with frankly rude and apathetic wait staff. We waited almost thirty minutes for water. Another hour or so before the first dish was brought out. We had a slightly larger group (six people), and each of us received our main dish one after the other, with at least 10 minutes between each delivery. Other tables were seated long after us, served, and left by the time our food started to arrive. When we tried to politely inquire about the wait, the waitresses would walk by, avoid eye contact, and refuse to answer questions. Much of the food was cold by the time it arrived, but to wait for it to be warmed would have made this three hour ordeal another hour or two - no thank you. Maybe my expectations are too high? I'm avoiding this place unless I have ample time on my hands.

  • Ava B.

This place is a tiny, windowless cinder-block building that looks pretty unprepossessing from the outside. It seats maybe 40 people, and there appear to be only two servers. Ambiance is meh (lots of mirrors, so you can watch folks at other tables getting their food before you do). If you come at a busy time, be prepared to wait for a table. That said, the wait is worth it. They have hands-down the best Tom Yum Goong I've ever had. There is so much shrimp and so many mushrooms that it stops just short of being a casserole.

  • Brian R.

I love this place. Some of the best Thai around Baton Rouge for sure. The service can be slow and your tables food arrives at different times but it is hot and fresh. The odd service almost becomes a part of the appeal. Good quality food and price are excellent. Highly recommended.

Rama is my favorite Thai restaurant in Baton Rouge! The panang is awesome and the portion is large. I loved it so much that I brought home the leftovers then ate it when I walked in the door. I just went there on Saturday and I'm craving it again. I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't get an eggroll appetizer. That was just ok. I won't be ordering that again. The décor is awful and the service is quite slow. I knew all that going there though based on other reviews so my expectations were low in these areas. The food more than makes up for these shortcomings. I can't wait to go back!

  • Meg P.

Rama is my favorite Thai place in BR. The panang anything is great, and I love the lemon grass soup! The only thing I don't like is how slow the service is, even for take out. Just plan to wait to be seated or for your take out, and if you eat in, plan to be there a while.

I've been eating at Rama for at least five years, before that I didn't even realize they were open. When you pass the building it looks like a run down shack with no windows. Don't let this fool you, they are actually still open. Rama is really small. If it's even somewhat busy, expect to be standing outside as there really isn't any waiting space. Also it may take a really long time for a waitress to even acknowledge you. This is not a place you come to for speed or service. Give it some time and you will eventually be seated. The food here is really good. They have some of the best Thai food in the city. It just can take a long time to get it... a really long time. I've had dinners stretch to two hours long when it really should have only took thirty minutes. But at least the food makes up for it. This place has no atmosphere and since it is so small it feels like you are part of the table next to you's conversation. You can easily hear everything they say. This can be awkward. As stated before, there are no windows so it sort of feels like you are in a small yellow prison. Also the bathrooms are pretty terrible. Despite all the complaints, I still have to recommend Rama as there food is damn good. Just don't come here when you need a quick meal or are trying to impress a date.

I've been searching for tasty Thai food for awhile here in BR. I am quite happy with this little place. We got take-out tonight. Chicken Pad Thai, pad Thai with chicken, shrimp and egg, Panang Chicken and egg rolls. I'm a lover of Chicken Pad Thai. They cheerfully accommodated my request for all dishes to be made with white meat chicken. Panang Chicken is a new dish for me. Loved it. A little spicy, but the woman with who I spoke on the phone cautioned me and offered a less spicy version but I thought it wouldn't be too spicy. I really enjoyed it but will dial down the spice level next time. When I went to pick up the order, I was promptly thanked and they asked me to please let them know how I liked it. I will go back and dine in next time.

I been eating at Rama for over 20 yrs ! I also work there, and know they cook everything fresh . The service is not all great due to the fact the cook who is the owner cook slow but with perfection ! If you want to enjoy the real authentic taste of real Thai food come to Rama ! Come early ... People will wait over and hour to get there food but it is so worth it !

Bad....just plain bad. I have only been to this restaurant once, but it was more than enough to close the book indefinitely . I would only recommend eating here if you are purposely seeking out non-authentic Thai food (for some reason?) and a truly horrific atmosphere/ decor. Seriously though...this restaurant has a bizarre decor that features many (and I mean many) mirrors facing you. I almost felt like I was in the Bruce Lee classic "Enter the Dragon" except this scene was entirely bereft of the films thrill... I don't really need to go into details but my entire group received lackluster dishes. The food seemed to be prepared with the cheapest of ingredients and lacked traditional Thai food qualities. It honestly felt more like a cheap Chinese-fusion restaurant. My personal opinion is to go up the road a bit further and try out Thai Kitchen instead!

    (1)
  • Cate C.

The only con is the occasional super long time you'll be waiting for a delicious meal. Other than that, no complaints here. The food is great! It's comparable to Thai Kitchen but cheaper. The flavors are unique and very bold. I recommend the Rama Duck, Panang Chicken, and Pad Thai. Also, Rama spicy ordered with the meatballs is fantastic together. I usually eat the meatballs and follow-up with the leftover bowl of sauce added to the Rama spicy wraps. It definitely adds for more flavor and you're not throwing away something so yummy. This place is only open at limited hours (5 to 10 or 11 pm) Mon-Sat so get there early near opening hours to avoid a long wait time.

  • Daniel M.

The second paragraph by Colleen is spot on. THAT'S WHY THIS PLACE IS SO AWESOME. Yeah, you're gonna wait to order, and they won't visit your table very often. But the food is amazing. Huge portions and flavor explosion. I don't know of anywhere else in Baton Rouge that serves it up this well. Don't go here for the service, but if you want to eat good without the trappings of a corporate dictatorship, come here.

Best pad thai in town! In fact, some of the best pad thai I've had in my life. I get it vegetarian with tofu. SO GOOD. The amount of peanut oil they use is perfect. The service can be kind of slow but the food makes up for it. To those who have never been... Yes, this place is a dive. The outside looks completely sketchy. But the food is worth it, and I love that the interior hasn't changed since at least the 70's. Support a great local business! This place runs circles around Thai Kitchen in terms of quality and flavor.

Only reason not 5 stars was the venue. The food alone gets 5 stars. Having lived most recently in Seattle and traveling worldwide, I can't imagine that BR has better Thai food. My base measure of any Thai restaurant is Pad Thai and Red Curry. The Pad Thai was excellent, not the "best I've ever had" but much better than average and I opted for the fish panang which was awesome! I did takeout as I normally do a new restaurant instead of hauling the whole family in. I can see why Rama gets low marks due to the building, seating and decor, but don't let it keep you from the food in this place.

The mirrors everywhere are a little freaky... Very much like wandering through a funhouse maze. But when you can catch this place open, GO! Best Thai food in town.

Let's just get this out of the way...don't bother going to Rama if you're: 1. Claustrophobic 2. Needy Rama Restaurant is a "quaint" building with no windows in a cinderblock building. When I first saw it from the outside I wasn't sure whether my coworkers would be able to get me to go in, but I'm glad I got off my high horse and did so. Don't let the unassuming exterior (and interior) fool you--this place has genuinely good food. In fact, one member of our party of 8 was Thai. Despite making a fool of himself by trying to speak to the Vietnamese waitress in Thai (yep, he's that guy), he said the food was tasty as well. I had the pad thai and thought it was delicious with just a little bit of added spice. While the service here is definitely pretty bad, our waitress was funny and friendly; it took forever to get the food, but hey, we were a group of 8 at a place that probably shouldn't seat more than 20. We were there to share each other's company anyway...right? After dinner the waitress happily split all our checks. Honestly, the food was downright cheap for the size of the portions and I felt like there was just enough (and maybe more) on the plate. I was really impressed by Rama Restaurant, especially after the initial impression and the feeling that I might be about to walk into the makings of a scene from a horror film. Don't come here for the service, but if you want some great thai food for a price that I consider to be dirt cheap, come and get it. Oh, and bring a friend...or seven.

Broccoli? Pretty good Thai place for Baton Rouge. Not so good all around. At it's best Rama serves American-style Chinese food with Thai influenced flavors. Mixing foods and cuisines comes naturally in Louisiana, so many people will enjoy it. If you have never experienced Thai food in LA, Chicago, San Francisco, Thailand, nor another country with a sizable Thai population this place will be good enough. If you do have experience with Thai food in any of the places above, adjust your expectations and enjoy it for what it is. Rama is doing the best it can with available resources. There are no Thai grocery stores, so it's not really fair to compare Rama to food outside of Baton Rouge. Coconut milk is expensive, so the curry at Rama isn't as rich as it could be. Broccoli is apparently widely available, so there are offerings with Broccoli which may surprise you as it is not common in Thai food. So it's pretty good Thai influenced food for Baton Rouge, just not good for Thai food. So yes, we'll go there again for a change, but we won't recommend it without an asterisk.

I LOVE this place. A friend of mine introduced me to this place so I went online to read reviews. And after doing so decided I'd order the Pad Thai, while I'm not a huge peanut fan the meal was good. I've now been back 3 more times & some of my favorite dishes are the mint beef (spicy & delicious!) and also the Spicy Rama appetizer as a dish. They are both spicy but absolutely amazing. The service is great (two old Thai ladies do it ALL) cook, take orders, serve, clean. Small & dark looking on the outside but the flavor within cannot be beat. I don't think I'll ever eat at another Thai restaurant in this town again.

The staff is very polite and attentive. For dinner I had the Pork Sate and Pad Khee Mao. Pork sate was good. Although the cucumber salad that it comes with is little more than chunks of cucumber flavored with sweet rice vinegar and a few slices of red onion. It could also be served sans bread. The Pad Khee Mao was way too sweet. This is one of my favorite Thai dishes and this just doesn't come close what i was expecting. I like Thai food but I don't think the dishes I tried at Rama leave me wanting to return

It's a testament to the limited dining choices in Baton Rouge that I've been to this place twice, as it did not deserve a second visit, but here's my report from the first time we went (excerpted from a blog post): It was a windowless cinderblock building, making it look just like a strip bar from the outside. The inside had mirrored walls, continuing the effect. We got to check out the crowd for a good 20 minutes before being seated, and I felt rather glamorous by comparison. All the whitecaps had put on their best going-out polos, cargo shorts, and of course, white caps for the occasion. One stood out by wearing his best sweat-stained going-out promotional bank visor. One benefit of wearing these outfits out for the night is that if a game of ultimate frisbee were to break out at the restaurant, they would be ready to go. At 9:35 or so we were finally seated. We ordered about 10. Fifteen minutes later we got silverware and water, then we had to stop someone to ask for the beers we'd ordered, which then took another 5-10 minutes to arrive. By 10:30 our appetizers hadn't arrived yet, and we wondered if they were growing the soybeans for the tofu. I was ready to go back through the kitchen and see which Motley Crue song the middle-aged Asian waitress was dancing to over on the other side, where it must still be a functioning strip bar. That could be the only explanation for the extended stretches of time between her visits. At 10:36 our apps arrived, then six minutes later came the entrees of my three dining companions, followed by mine four minutes later. The reason I have such precise times toward the end was that I was keeping sane by taking notes, which you would think would give the impression that I was a food critic and we might get better service. Nope. Our waitress said by way of explanation at the end that they'd been busy all night but, uhhh, the thing is, sometimes restaurants get busy! Especially on weekends! So have more staff on hand or move faster! Criminy.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge. It is some of the best Thai I've ever had, from LA, San Francisco, New York and London, places famous for ethnic food, Rama still tops it. And it's very reasonably priced. It may look like an old bomb shelter and they can be a bit slow at times, but I think that adds to the charm. The servers are very nice and we know each other by first name. So I always get the same thing: Chicken Coconut Soup and Shrimp chips to start, Pad Thai, Mee Krob, Veggies in Peanut Sauce.

Rama Spicy! This is one of those hole in the wall places with only like 8 tables. Some of the dishes here are okay like the Rama Duck, but the only thing I love about this place is the Rama Spicy. It's their own signature dish or appetizer. It's grounded beef cooked with special spices and jalapeno and they give you a flour tortilla to wrap it in. This stuff is sweet, salty, spicy heaven. Service can be kind of blah at times since there's only like one person waiting on the whole restaurant.

I wanted to like Rama. My friends hyped it up so much, and one even chose to go there for his birthday dinner. But as much as a tried to let it in, Rama did not earn a spot in my heart. I can deal with low "ambiance" (or complete lack thereof, in this case) and subpar service when the food shines and the prices match. But the food didn't sit well for my palate, or my stomach (as I found out later). My dining companions got different soups--I'm glad I did not, because none turned out how I would have expected (sometimes the color was off, or there were ingredients added or subtracted from what should be in that particular soup). For the main course, I got the veggie green curry. It was spicier than expected, the veggies didn't seem fresh, and it did not really taste like what I've come to know and love as my favorite Thai dish. Sad. I also tried my friend's Pad Thai, which tasted like it had been doused in corn syrup. The sauce was way.too.sweet. Every one else seemed to enjoy their meal, so it could have been just me. In my life, I've probably eaten much more Asian food (particularly more *authentic* Asian food) than my dining companions--maybe that's the problem here? On the plus side, the server (owner, perhaps? was likeable in spite of service quality, the bathroom was not the worst I've seen, and they let us bring in a birthday cake, and even instigated the singing of "happy birthday" to my friend!

Not what you'd expect from the exterior. In this unassuming little building is some seriously good food. I found out like most of the reviews say the service leaves something to be desired but the food more than makes up for it. Well spiced generous portions of food are brought out to you. I had more than enough to eat my fill at the restaurant and take some home for lunch the next day. If you're looking for a good thai place in Baton Rouge this is definitely somewhere to look into.

The only thing that is redeemable about this place is that it has been in Baton Rouge for so long. You have to respect that in this town. The divey location also scores points. But the food and the service are terrible. The first time I went here, I didn't even get to eat!! After waiting 15 minutes for a table, I waited another 10 for a server who never came. I left and didn't plan to return. But I did anyway because I'd heard good things about the food. Eh...not so much. The pad thai was mushy and overcooked, without much real flavor. A couple of reviews call this "the best Thai in Baton Rouge," which tells you a lot about Baton Rouge and a lot about Rama. Skip it. If you want good Thai food, sadly, you really have to go to Lafayette (Pimon Thai or Thai Cuisine) or New Orleans (Thai Basil).

Easily the best Thai restaurant in BR. The service is always slow but that's generally because there's only two waitresses working each night. The food (and the prices) more than make up for it though. Spectacular soups, and the Pad-Thai is the best I've ever had. If you like your Thai food extra hot, they'll do it hotter than you've ever tasted.

I really loved Rama. When you first walk in you aren't quite sure what you are supposed to do. We decided to sit down at an empty table and eventually got a waitress who was very sweet. The whole process was painstakingly long, but the food was so good. You should give yourself about 2 hours to order and eat. The decor is pretty interesting, the strip club review below was pretty accurate. I spend most of my 'waiting for food time' checking out the odd construction of the place and looking in all of the mirrors trying to figure out what's on the other side of that darn wall. I've only sat in the front room I have no idea how large the other room off to the right is. I could go peek and see for myself but then I wouldn't have anything to entertain myself while I wait for my food. I imagine it to be just about the same. Food is good, you will be confused, you will wait a long time, you will leave happy.

I've ate at 4 different Thai place in Baton Rouge... on a regular basis. Rama is my favorite, by far. It is real tiny and isn't exactly the best looking place. You can barely find it because its right under some bridge. However, the food is fantastic. I always get the stuff chicken wings, the chicken larb with cabbage (you have to say cabbage or you'll get lettuce which isn't as good), spicy beef salad (I find Rama to have the best spicy beef salad), and pad thai. I'm not big on pad thai since it seems so typical to me, but it's good. The spicy beef salad is not exaclty a salad. The beef plays the major part and I love it. It has lime and spice, as much of Thai food have this. I also get the lemon grass soup (mushroom with chicken or shrimp). I have to say that the larb is better at Thai Kitchen though. Otherwise, everything else is better at Rama. One thing you need to know also is that they are very sllooooowwww. It's because there's only one cook. Don't even try to call for carry out on popular nights, they do not pick up the phone! The Thai tea is good too. I'm getting hungry just typing this.

Delicious food. Windowless hole-in-the-wall atmosphere might make you feel like you know a great secret if the place isn't packed, as it often can be. Don't try to call in for take out on the weekends. If they're busy enough they won't even answer the phone. Just go there, it's worth it. Good satay, curries, pad thai, eggplant dishes, pla chien. A personal favorite is the green curry with shrimp... slightly sweet, very spicy, and loaded with tiny, tender chunks of eggplant. Don't miss the homemade coconut ice cream with your choice of fried apples or bananas for dessert.

Rama's in a windowless cubby-hole. I remember when it first opened more than 25 years ago. It was my first esperience with Thai then and I like it even more now. The staff is very accomodating and friendly. Food seems authentic; you can have them tone down the "Thai heat" as you wish.

I enjoyed Rama. Food is good and people are nice and polite. The building is clean. What more could you ask for?
